Small ways to use a fan instead of the air conditioner

Electricity is expensive, so this summer I tried to use AC less. Some things that worked for me in São Paulo:

Point the fan out of the window at night to push hot air out. Put a bowl of ice in front of it for a short time when it is very hot. Use the ceiling fan in the right direction (in summer it should push air down). It is not magic, but my bill was lower.
