Dumb question from an old mechanic: why does it matter who runs DeepMind?

Seriously asking. I see “Hassabis steps down” and Alphabet stock dropping 4% and I don't get why one guy changing jobs moves billions. He's still there as chair and chief scientist, right?

In my garage when the boss retired, the guys who did the actual work kept doing the actual work. What am I missing?
