Mecca pact: the quick facts (and my questions)
I had to look up half of this, so sharing the basics from the news post for anyone else.
Signed Friday Aug 7 at Al Safa Palace in Mecca by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Erdoğan and Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif. An armed attack on one counts as an attack on all three. Talks took about a year. Turkey's foreign minister compared it to NATO's Article 5, said it doesn't target Iran, and named Egypt as a possible future member. Iran said it had no reason for concern.
My questions: does this mean they'd actually send troops? And why now?
