Brain implant story: I made simple summary of how it works (from GONOM post)
I am not science person but this story touch me, so I try to explain simple for others like me.
Keith Thomas is paralysed from chest down after a diving accident six years ago. Doctors put five small electrode arrays in his brain. A computer program read his brain signals and send them to patches on his spine and his forearm. So the signal go around the broken part. This is the “bypass”.
Second bypass go the other way. Sensors on his hand send feeling back to brain. So he can feel touch again. He feel his dog fur. For me this is the most beautiful part.
But only one person in study. So we must wait for more patients. Please correct me if I am wrong somewhere!
