Where do students actually live in your city?

I am a student and also deliver food, so I see a lot of buildings. In the Netherlands student rooms are very hard to find. Some friends are on waiting lists for years, others pay a lot for a tiny room, a few sleep on couches for months at the start of the year.

I would like to know how this works elsewhere. Do students live with parents? In dorms run by the university? Shared flats? And is it getting harder, or is it just a Dutch problem?
