Index funds are boring, and that's literally the point

Every few weeks someone at work discovers a new stock, a new coin, a new "strategy". I just keep putting a fixed amount into a broad index fund every payday and do nothing else.

It's not exciting. I can't brag about it at parties. But over long periods, most people trying to beat the market don't, especially after fees. That's not my opinion, it's been studied to death.

I'm not saying it's magic or that markets only go up. They don't. I'm saying the boring option deserves more respect than it gets online. Fight me (politely).
