500 people may be gone and it's barely a headline

I normally post dumb stuff here, but the Rohingya boats story has been sitting with me all week. Two boats, more than 500 people feared dead, and it barely made a ripple in my feed back home. Meanwhile I know everything about a celebrity's divorce.

Is it just distance? Is it that there are no survivors and no pictures yet? I genuinely want to know how others here see it.
