Noskova survives five lost match points to beat Muchova in an all-Czech Wimbledon final

Linda Noskova won Wimbledon on Saturday, beating fellow Czech Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 on Centre Court for her first Grand Slam title. The Reuters report carried by Al Jazeera said the 21-year-old ninth seed led 6-2, 5-2 before wasting five match points and losing five games in a row. She then pulled away to 5-2 in the third set and served it out at the second attempt.

It was the first Grand Slam singles final between two Czech women in the professional era, and Noskova is the third Czech winner of the women's title in four years, after Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024. Pakistan's Jang led with her age, calling her the youngest champion in 15 years.

The Guardian described Noskova walking to her chair with her fingers in her ears to block out the roaring crowd, and noted that she had also saved a match point in the third round against Sorana Cirstea. It reported the speeches too: Muchova, who lost the 2023 French Open final, joked about her friend before congratulating her, and Noskova thanked her late mother, Ivana, who died of cancer in 2024.

How each outlet framed it

  • Al Jazeera (Reuters) — the swings in the scoreline and the run of Czech champions.
  • The Guardian — the mental game: nerves, resilience and two friends' speeches.
  • Jang — the record: the youngest Wimbledon champion in 15 years.

What we don't know yet: whether this starts a run of titles. The Guardian called the women's game wide open, with many contenders ranked inside the top 15.
