books for long summer evenings on the farm?

Hi all! Summer is busy for us but the evenings are long and light here, and after dinner I sit outside with the cows making their noises. Perfect reading time.

I want something slow and warm, nothing too dark. Last summer I read a lot of Scandinavian family stories and loved them. Any suggestions from your countries? I like reading books from places I will never visit.
