Why do DC launches keep landing in the same $35-55M range?

Genuine question, not trying to dunk. Supergirl opened to $38M against a $170M budget, and Fortune lined it up with The Flash ($55M), Green Lantern ($53M) and Joker: Folie a Deux ($37.7M). That's a weirdly consistent floor for a brand that also did Superman's $618M last year.

Fortune also said the film got trimmed a lot after early screenings. Is that the real pattern here? Every DC miss I can think of had a messy edit story attached. Or am I just remembering the gossip and not the films that turned out fine?
