Halloween films tier list: actually scary vs just loud

Every October my partner and I argue about this, so I am outsourcing the argument to you.

My rule is simple. A film is scary if it stays with you when the lights are off. It is loud if it only works because someone slammed a door next to the microphone.

S tier: The Shining, Hereditary, the original Ringu. A tier: The Exorcist, The Babadook. Loud tier: most sequels to anything with a number in the title.
