Elden Ring film's reported $200m budget: A24's biggest bet, and how far it is from the last

A24's live-action Elden Ring film is reportedly set to cost almost $200 million, which Eurogamer said on 25 October would make it the most expensive film the studio has ever made. The figure comes from a Deadline report that put the budget at $175 million to $200 million, according to JoBlo and SlashFilm.

The film, based on FromSoftware's 2022 fantasy game, is written and directed by Alex Garland and is due in cinemas on 3 March 2028. JoBlo listed a cast led by Kit Connor, with Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce and Nick Offerman among others. SlashFilm added that Garland's script runs to 180 pages.

For scale, SlashFilm pointed to Marty Supreme, which had a $70 million budget, and called Elden Ring “by far” A24's biggest bet to date.

How each outlet framed it

  • Eurogamer — the record: a games adaptation becoming A24's most expensive production.
  • JoBlo — the Deadline range and the full cast list.
  • SlashFilm — the gamble: the gap between this budget and A24's earlier films, and the long script.

Where the numbers differ: headlines say “nearly $200 million”, but the underlying report gives a range that starts at $175 million. Neither A24 nor FromSoftware has confirmed a figure.
