Society Talk

Midsummer just happened. What holiday does nobody outside your country get?

We just had Midsummer here in Sweden, which, to explain it to outsiders, is a national holiday where we dance around a pole pretending to be frogs, eat pickled herring with new potatoes and stay awake because it never gets dark. Every year someone from abroad watches the frog dance and asks if everyone is all right.

What's yours? I'm especially interested in the social side, like who you're expected to spend it with, what the unwritten rules are, what happens if you skip it.
