Hurricanes shut out Vegas 3-0 in Game 6 to win their first Stanley Cup in 20 years

The Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup on Sunday, 14 June, beating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. theScore reported that Taylor Hall scored the Cup-winning goal 3:47 into the game, Jackson Blake made it 2-0 in the second period and Nikolaj Ehlers added an empty-netter. Brandon Bussi stopped all 22 shots.

It is Carolina's second Stanley Cup, 20 years after the first in 2006. Captain Jordan Staal won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. theScore said he scored in each of the first five games of the Final, finished with six goals in six games and became the oldest player to win the award.

The NHL's own report confirmed the 4-2 series win and said Carolina went 16-3 over the whole postseason, a run that ended with a shutout on the road. The league's page described the Conn Smythe as going to the player judged most valuable to his team in the playoffs.

How each outlet framed it

  • theScore — the game and the captain: early goal, shutout and Staal's record Final.
  • NHL — the league's celebration: the champions, the series and a dominant 16-3 playoff run.

Where the numbers differ: theScore gave every goal scorer and the times. The NHL's page did not name the Game 6 scorers, and it listed Bussi's 22-save shutout without saying which team he played for.
