Ground beef on NPR's list hit home for this retiree
Saw the GONOM post about NPR's list of everyday groceries whose prices bounce around. Ground beef was on it, and that one hit home.
On a fixed income, ground beef has always been our 'stretch' meat. Spaghetti, chili, tacos for the grandkids, meatloaf. When it moves up, the whole week's plan moves with it.
My wife and I have started doing half beef, half lentils or beans in most of those dishes. Honestly, the grandkids haven't noticed. I'm sure some of you have been doing this forever, but it was new to us.
Just wanted to share in case another retiree out there is staring at the meat counter feeling the same way.
