Is the Korean wave on Netflix peaking, or just getting started?
I keep reading that K-content has 'taken over' streaming. The Netflix figures for its 10 years in Korea are big: 200+ titles, 200+ entries in the global Top 10 since 2021.
But I am skeptical of the 'just getting started' story. Every wave peaks. Spanish shows had a big moment, then it normalised. When something is everywhere, it stops feeling special, and audiences move to the next new thing.
The detail I do find interesting is that first-time writers or directors led about a third of recent Korean originals. If that is true, it suggests the pipeline is still fresh. So maybe I am wrong. Convince me either way.
