Do drug interaction checker apps help patients or just frighten them?

More patients now come to the counter with a screenshot from an interaction checker app. Sometimes it's genuinely useful: they caught a real problem with a combination, and we sorted it out with their doctor. I'm glad they checked.

But often the app lists every theoretical interaction in red, without any sense of how likely or serious it is. I've had people stop taking an important medicine on their own because an app said 'major interaction' about a combination that had been chosen deliberately and was being monitored.

I'm not against the apps. I just think context is everything with medicines, and a red warning with no context can do harm. What's your experience, as a patient or a professional?
