Arsenal win their first Premier League title in 22 years after Man City draw at Bournemouth

Arsenal are Premier League champions for the first time since 2004. The AP report carried by Arab News said Manchester City drew 1-1 at Bournemouth on Tuesday, 19 May, which gave Arsenal an unassailable four-point lead with one round left. Junior Kroupi put Bournemouth ahead in the 39th minute, and Erling Haaland equalised in stoppage time. It is Arsenal's 14th league title.

AP noted that Mikel Arteta had finished second three seasons in a row. 1News in New Zealand, also using AP, spelled it out: behind City in 2023 and 2024 and behind Liverpool in 2025. Arsenal's last title came with the unbeaten “Invincibles” side of 2004.

Khaleej Times led with the scenes. Fans outside the Emirates Stadium set off red flares and chanted Arteta's name, while the players watched at the training ground. It said Arsenal's 1-0 win over relegated Burnley had put them five points clear and that they had won four league games in a row without conceding. Pep Guardiola congratulated them, and Arsene Wenger told the players to enjoy it.

How each outlet framed it

  • Arab News (AP) — the result and the history: City's draw, 22 years, and the Champions League final still to come.
  • 1News (AP) — the same wire story, with Arteta's three second places listed.
  • Khaleej Times — the celebration: flares, reactions from Wenger, Guardiola and Keir Starmer.

Where the numbers differ: AP described a four-point lead with one round left, while Khaleej Times said the Burnley win had put Arsenal five points clear before City's draw. Arsenal were due to receive the trophy after their last match at Crystal Palace.
