How to teach climate change to 12-year-olds without scaring them?

I am student teacher for class 7 science in Pune. Next month the syllabus has a chapter on climate and weather. Last year my senior teacher said some kids came home crying after a video about melting ice and polar bears.

I want them to understand it is serious, but also not to feel hopeless! Kids here already see the heat and the floods in monsoon, so they know something is changing.

Any teachers or parents have ideas? Activities, videos, ways of talking? Thank you so much!
