The BioWare numbers don't add up to 'saving the company', I think

Let me do the maths with the figures in the article. 400 roles is around 3% of EA workforce, says Dexerto. About 50 of them at BioWare. The debt from the buyout is around $18 billion, and EA told investors it can save up to $700 million.

If an average role costs, say, $150k a year all included, 400 roles is around $60 million. That is less than 10% of the $700m target. So the closure of BioWare is not mostly about money saved on salaries. It is about which projects get money in the future.

My guess is they decided a new Mass Effect, which takes many years, is a risk they don't want while paying debt. Correct me if my numbers are bad.
