'The Devil Wears Prada 2' opens to $77M and $233.6M worldwide, knocking 'Michael' off No. 1
The Devil Wears Prada 2 opened at No. 1 in North America with $77 million over the May 1–3 weekend, according to studio estimates reported by AP. Released by Disney's 20th Century Studios in 4,150 locations, the sequel added $156.6 million overseas for a global opening of about $233.6 million. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return, with David Frankel directing again.
AP said women made up about 76% of ticket buyers and put the reported budget at $100 million, against $35 million for the 2006 original. Streaming of the first film rose 428% from March to April, per Nielsen. Michael fell to second with $54 million in its second weekend.

Boxoffice Pro broke the debut down: $10 million from Thursday previews, an A- CinemaScore, and nearly triple the original's $27.5 million opening. It called it Meryl Streep's biggest opening frame ever, but noted it came in well below its forecasting panel's top estimate. Italy ($16.6 million), Brazil ($12.6 million) and the UK ($12 million) led overseas.
The A.V. Club said the international start was the second-biggest of 2026, behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and noted that the domestic debut trailed Michael's opening a week earlier.
