Hosting my first Thanksgiving! How far ahead do I start prepping??

So my partner's family is coming to OUR apartment for Thanksgiving this year and I have volunteered to cook everything. I have never cooked a turkey. I have never cooked for twelve people. I am so excited and also terrified!!

What can I make ahead and freeze? When do I buy the turkey? Is it true you need several days just to thaw it in the fridge?? I've heard horror stories about people trying to thaw it on the morning of.

Please give me your timelines! Also any tips for a tiny apartment oven would be amazing!
