On England possibly charging foreign visitors at museums
I've been mulling this over since the announcement. The government says charging international visitors at national museums in England could "provide significant benefits". Nothing is set yet, but £15–20 has been floated, and it would need digital ID checks at the door.
As a photographer I've spent half my life wandering into the British Museum or the National Gallery on a whim, for twenty minutes, just to look at one thing. Free entry made that possible. I get the money argument, especially with overseas visitors making up 43% of visits. But I worry about what ID checks at the entrance do to the feeling of the place.
Curious what people from countries that already charge think. Does it change how you visit?
