How I found volunteering that fits around a full-time job
I spent years saying I'd volunteer 'when things calm down'. They never did. So here's what eventually worked for me, in case it helps.
First, I stopped looking for something big. I looked for something fixed and small: two hours, same day, every fortnight. Mine is helping older people at the local library with forms and online banking. As an accountant it's not much of a stretch, but people seem genuinely relieved to have someone patient sit with them.
Second, I asked the library directly rather than going through a big platform. Local places often need help but don't advertise well.
Third, I treat it like an appointment. If it's in the calendar, it happens.
If you volunteer, what do you do and how did you find it?
