Do you know your neighbours?

A small question that has been in my head since a neighbour on my floor moved out last month. We had lived next to each other for six years, and I realised I did not know his surname. We said hello in the lift, that was all.

My grandmother knew every family on her street in Zaragoza, who was ill, whose son was getting married. I do not think that was always pleasant, there was gossip, but there was also help.
