Should police use stun grenades at school protests at all?

I've been reading about the French high-school protests and the 15-year-old in Lens who lost a hand. The minister has suspended stun grenades at school protests 'until we know exactly what happened in this case', while rejecting accusations of police repression as 'excessive'.

My honest question: should these weapons ever be used where the protesters are mostly teenagers? I understand some protests turn violent and police get hurt, the numbers say hundreds of officers were injured. But a child losing a hand feels like a line that should never have been reachable.

Where do you stand?
