why do new buildings in every city look the same now?

I travel a little for work and new districts in Madrid, Dubai, Seoul, Toronto all have the same glass boxes, same grey cladding, same 'luxury living' signs. As an architect I understand the reasons (cost, regulations, speed) but it still makes me sad.

Do you feel your city is losing its own look? Is there any place still building in a local style?
