first woman PM in Morocco, but the 38% turnout is what I keep thinking about
Genuinely good news that El Mansouri is the first woman to hold the post, and only the third in the Arab world. Her background is interesting too: Marrakesh's first woman mayor in 2009, then housing minister handling the rehousing after the 2023 Al Haouz earthquake.
But turnout fell from roughly 50% to about 38%. I'm trying to be fair here: a historic first and a disengaged electorate can both be true. Which one matters more for how her government goes?
