First gaming PC! What should I actually spend money on??

After years of consoles I'm finally building a PC!! Budget is around 1,500 CAD for the tower. I mostly want to play big single-player games at 1440p and maybe some Counter-Strike with friends.

Where do I splurge and where do I save? Everyone online says something different and I'm getting overwhelmed!!
