Unpopular opinion: the GOAT debate is completely pointless

Every sport, every thread, eventually someone asks who the greatest of all time is, and then nothing gets resolved. Different eras, different rules, different equipment, different competition levels.

You can't compare them meaningfully, so why do we keep doing it? Genuinely asking. I'm a data analyst and even I won't touch this.
