VMAs 2026: Madonna is the big winner, BTS take song of the year, Taylor Swift video of the year

Madonna was named artist of the year and was the biggest winner at the MTV Video Music Awards at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27, hosted by Snoop Dogg. Taylor Swift won video of the year for “The Fate of Ophelia”, Britain's Official Charts reported.

BTS won song of the year and best K-pop for “Swim”, plus best group. Blackpink's Lisa won best pop for “Dream” with Kentaro Sakaguchi. Official Charts led with a British winner: Sienna Spiro, named best new artist.

Gulf News said the show aired live on CBS and that Lisa's award was the first of the night. Singapore's Bandwagon put the two K-pop stars at the top of its story, noting that Lisa also performed. It said Swift received the first Artist Director Honors.

How each outlet framed it

  • Official Charts — the full list, with a UK new-artist winner.
  • Gulf News — the night in order, from Lisa's opening win.
  • Bandwagon — an Asian lens: three wins for BTS, one for Lisa.

Where the numbers differ: Official Charts and Bandwagon counted seven wins for Madonna, including best album and best long-form video for Confessions II. Gulf News listed five and noted that only three were presented on stage. Gulf News also left out BTS's best group award.
