Is taking kids to a live match worth the money these days?

My two have been asking to go to a proper match for ages. Between tickets, travel, food and the inevitable scarf, a family day out isn't cheap.

Is it worth it at their ages (7 and 10), or should I start with a lower-league club? Interested in how other people have done it.
