Emmys 2026: 'The Pitt' and 'Widow's Bay' win, as Matthew Rhys takes two lead acting prizes

The Pitt won best drama and Widow's Bay best comedy at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, Reuters reported. DTF St. Louis won best limited series. Matthew Rhys won lead actor in a comedy for Widow's Bay and lead actor in a limited series for The Beast in Me.

Other acting winners were Noah Wyle (The Pitt), Rhea Seehorn (Pluribus), Jean Smart (Hacks) and Sally Field (Remarkably Bright Creatures). ABC News said Widow's Bay set an all-time record for a comedy with 14 Emmys, and Smart won her eighth career Emmy. It also listed The Traitors and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert among the winners.

NPR said Rhys was the first person to win two lead actor Emmys at the same ceremony, hosted by Mariska Hargitay. It covered Jamie Lee Curtis's tribute to Rob Reiner and his wife Michele and a tribute to Catherine O'Hara. Field, a critic of the proposed Paramount–Warner Bros. merger, said arts voices must not be “silenced or compromised or merged”.
