Orionids next week!! Any tips for catching meteors with just a phone?

I've never properly watched a meteor shower and the Orionids peak around the 21st, so this year I'm going to do it! My plan is to drive about an hour out of the city, away from the lights, with a blanket and a flask of chai.

My question: is it even possible to photograph meteors on a normal phone? I have night mode and I can buy a cheap tripod. Do I just point at the sky and hope? Which direction? I'm very excited and very clueless!
