We stopped splitting chores 50/50 and it fixed most of our arguments

For years my wife and I tried to split everything evenly. A shared list, alternate weeks for dishes, all that. It caused more fights than it solved, because nobody's week is ever equal.

What we do now: each of us owns certain jobs completely. I do anything with the cars, the bins, the laundry and weekday dinners. She does the bills, the kids' school stuff, groceries and weekends. Nobody 'helps' with the other person's job unless asked, and nobody critiques how it's done.

I know some people will say this isn't fair if one list is longer. Maybe. But the mental load of constantly tracking 50/50 was worse than any small imbalance. Curious how other couples handle it.
