how do you talk about climate with older relatives without a fight?

Every family dinner it comes up and ends with someone annoyed. My grandad's view is "it's always been hot sometimes" and my mum's is that we're all doomed. I'm in the middle trying to keep the peace.

Has anyone found a way to actually have this conversation calmly?
