Spanish view on the Ceuta transfer: a U-turn, and I'm glad

As a Spaniard, I have mixed feelings about how my government handled Ceuta. On August 13 the interior minister said anyone entering illegally would be sent back and would not reach the peninsula. Six days later, about 500 children are being moved to the mainland. That's a U-turn, and the Guardian is right to call it one.

But I'm glad they turned. Spanish law gives the state a duty of care to unaccompanied minors, and the shelters were absurdly overcrowded. The fight now is over which regions take the children, and that's where politics will get ugly. The People's Party and Vox have already been very sharp about it.

Would like to hear how other countries handle unaccompanied minors.
