Yash's 'Toxic' opens to over Rs 100 crore net in India despite mixed reviews
Toxic, the gangster drama starring Yash of KGF fame, opened on August 26 with ₹101.10 crore net in India across 24,579 shows, according to tracker Sacnilk, as reported by The Week. With about ₹20 crore from overseas, its worldwide first day reached ₹140.75 crore gross, the sixth-biggest opening day for an Indian film.
The Hindi version led with ₹55 crore net, more than half the total, beating KGF: Chapter 2's Hindi opening of ₹53.95 crore. Kannada added ₹23.30 crore, Telugu ₹16 crore, Tamil ₹5.50 crore and Malayalam ₹1.30 crore. The Week called the reviews “largely negative to mixed”.
Gulf News set the worldwide figure against other Indian blockbusters: ahead of Jawan and Animal, but behind KGF 2 and this year's Dhurandhar 2. It framed the story as audiences turning up while critics stayed unconvinced, citing complaints about the reported 194-minute running time.
At the box office, Business Today led with the gap to Yash's own record, and noted that the figures were early Sacnilk estimates that may differ from the producers' final numbers.
How each outlet framed it
- The Week — a full breakdown by language and the Hindi record.
- Gulf News — the league table of openers, and the critics' doubts.
- Business Today — still short of KGF 2.
Where the numbers differ: the KGF 2 benchmark was ₹165.37 crore gross for The Week, ₹164 crore for Gulf News and ₹134.50 crore net for Business Today. DT Next put Toxic's own India net at ₹108 crore.
