We tried no screens before age 2. Here is what actually happened

When my son was born, my partner and I decided no screens until 2, following the paediatric advice we were given at the health centre. He turned 2 last month, so here is an honest report.

What worked: meals without a tablet, books before bed, and he is very good at playing alone for 20 minutes. What did not work: video calls with grandparents. We made an exception for that from the start, because they live in another country.

What was hard: restaurants, long car trips, and being sick. When both parents had a fever at the same time, I admit we put on cartoons and I do not feel guilty.

I am not saying everyone should do it. Every family has different hours and support. But it was more possible than I expected. Now we allow a little, with us next to him.
